Mississippi man arrested for stealing $1,500 worth of dog food

CARROLL COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Carroll County deputies arrested a man after he allegedly stole a pallet of 40 bags of dog food.

In late February, Carroll County Sheriff Clint Walker said management at a local farm store contacted the sheriff’s office about the theft.

Deputies discovered that an order had been placed on February 18 for a pallet of dog food worth more than $1,500. Walker said the order was placed and paid for by credit
card over the phone. He said the charge was approved, and the buyer picked up the pallet the following day.

Several days after the purchase, the store was notified by the credit card company that the charge was fraudulent and was reversed. Deputies began investigating the theft and discovered that other counties had the same type of crime reported to them.

On March 12, Leake County deputies detained two suspects in Carthage, and Carroll County deputies interviewed the two suspects.

Walker said Brandon Barron, 40, of Tupelo, was charged with felony false pretense. He was booked into the Carroll County Regional Correctional Facility on March 14. His bond was set at $10,000.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Mississippi Agriculture Theft Bureau since
the crime is multijurisdictional and involves feed. As this is an ongoing investigation, more
charges may be forthcoming.
