Sebastian Stan obliquely addressed his casting in The Batman: Part II while promoting his Palme d’Or-winning film Fjord at the Cannes Film Festival this weekend.

Although neither Stan nor director Matt Reeves have directly confirmed that his role is that of District Attorney Harvey Dent, Stan told the press at Cannes that he plays “many roles in this one,” according to Deadline.

Stan’s coy “many roles” comment also suggests that Dent will indeed transform into his villainous alter ego Two-Face in The Batman: Part II. There had been speculation that Dent might not become Two-Face until a potential Part III.

Stan was also asked about working with the hair and makeup teams who will bring his Two-Face look to life, to which he responded: “I’m excited, I’m nervous and trying to keep surprising myself.” While he’s not directly answering the question, Stan isn’t exactly quelching the speculation that he’s playing both Dent and Two-Face in the film.

In his recent cast reveal for The Batman: Part II, Reeves used a gif of Scarlett Johansson from the movie Under the Skin where she played an alien who hunted men. Fans were quick to point out how much that shot of a black-haired Johansson resembled Harvey’s wife Gilda Dent in Batman: The Long Halloween, a classic comics run that saw Dent turn into Two-Face over the course of the story.

Second unit photography on The Batman: Part II is reportedly underway in Liverpool, England. According to the BBC, “various vehicles have been spotted outside St George’s Hall and at Queensway Tunnel. The Local Democracy Reporting Service understands this week’s activity was part of a technical recce by the studio, rather than a full formal shoot.”

Recent social media posts showed the filming of a sequence involving Robert Pattinson’s stunt double and some GCPD squad cars in The Birkenhead Tunnel in Liverpool. Set photos have also revealed the film’s new logo.

Principal photography commences next month. The Batman: Part II will also film in Glasgow, Scotland. The Glasgow City Council recently issued road restrictions for June that are believed to be for the filming of the Batman sequel. 2022’s The Batman also shot in Liverpool and Glasgow to double for Gotham City.

The Batman: Part II opens in theaters on October 1, 2027.
