Area fire departments receive wildland fire suppression kits

Several fire departments in north central Arkansas are among 65 departments statewide receiving wildland fire suppression kits from the Arkansas Department of Agriculture.
In Baxter County, recipients include Cotter Fire Department and Lone Rock Fire Department.

Boone County departments receiving kits are Cottonwood Rural Fire Association, Diamond City Fire Department, Harmon Volunteer Fire Protection Association and Lead Hill Volunteer Fire Department.

In Fulton County, Camp Volunteer Fire Department was selected.

Sharp County recipients include Hardy Fire Department and Highland Fire Department.

In Stone County, Sunnyland Rural Fire Department received a kit.

Each kit includes wildfire suppression tools and protective gear such as personal protective equipment, leaf blowers, backpack pumps and rakes valued at approximately $4,850.

Arkansas State Forester Kyle Cunningham said rural volunteer fire departments play a vital role in wildfire response across the state.

The kits are funded through the department’s Rural Fire Protection Program in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service through the Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant.

Since 2014, the program has provided more than 897 wildland fire kits to rural departments across Arkansas.
