Fireworks, juvenile disturbance at McDonald's in Vienna injures two officers
VIENNA, Va. (DC News Now) — Vienna police said some of its officers were injured after responding to a juvenile disturbance at a McDonald’s.

The incident happened on Sept. 26 at around 9:20 p.m. at the McDonald’s located at 544 Maple Ave. West. Officers responded to a fight in progress, which involved a large crowd of high school students.

Responding officers from the Vienna Police Department began checking out the area when fireworks began being set off in their direction, leaving a gaping hole in the ceiling.

As a result, two officers received minor injuries. They were treated there and remained on duty afterwards.

Vienna police said a pepperball system was used to disperse the people who were refusing to leave the area. Nobody was hurt during this process.

Employees blame the latest incident on students from nearby Madison High School, which has been an ongoing problem for about a year.

“I’m not surprised, considering the rowdiness I’m sure the game was yesterday (Friday),” said Madeline Lettndre, who lives near the restaurant.

This is the third McDonald’s in Northern Virginia plagued by juvenile violence over the last few months.

The Franconia location near Edison High School banned anyone under 21 from eating in there back in May, following a fight. The ban has since been rescinded; however, students only have 30 minutes to eat and leave.

A fight broke out at the McDonald’s in Burke in August, following a football game at nearby Lake Braddock Secondary School.

Operators of the Vienna McDonald’s did not respond to DC News Now’s requests to comment regarding what they may do to prevent future problems.

This incident is still being investigated.
