Admin arrested after guns found in fanny pack at school
CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools administrator is facing a felony charge after two firearms were discovered in his fanny pack on school property, according to Mecklenburg County court documents.
Records state the incident happened Thursday morning, August 7, at Butler High School. A CMS employee found a fanny pack inside the school’s learning center. While checking the bag for any identification to return it to its owner, the employee reportedly found a pistol inside.
The discovery was reported to the school principal, who was able to identify the bag’s owner as Justin Parker Moyer, who is listed as the AP director at Butler High School in court records.
Moyer reportedly admitted to owning the bag and the firearms found.
Court documents said the fanny pack contained a .380 semi-automatic Glock pistol and a North American Arms .22-caliber Derringer. CMPD said Moyer has a valid concealed carry permit issued in Cabarrus County and told police the weapons were for personal protection.
Despite the permit, North Carolina law prohibits firearms on school campuses, even for those with concealed carry licenses. As a result, Moyer has been charged with felony possession of a weapon on educational property.
Moyer was recently released on a written promise to appear in court. He has his first court appearance on Friday, Aug. 8.
