Maryland State Police (MSP) told DC News Now that troopers were called to the westbound area of I-70 near mile marker 47 after a tractor-trailer went up in flames.
The truck was hauling about 40,000 lbs of watermelons when the fire ignited, according to the Frederick County Fire and Rescue.
The fiery incident forced several lanes on I-70 to close, causing traffic to back up, as crews worked on clean-up efforts.
But that was not the only collision on the interstate Friday morning.
About a mile away, troopers were on the scene of a separate crash, where a tractor-trailer had slammed into the back of a dump truck. The crash was cleared, and lanes had reopened.
Fortunately, no one was hurt in either crash.
The Frederick County fire department shared pictures on Facebook, showing the front of the truck engulfed in flames. In another picture, the truck was charred, and the trailer was smoldering.
All lanes on I-70 had reopened around 11:41 a.m. on Aug. 1.
