At 11:23 p.m. on Friday, July 4, officers with the Charlottesville Police Department were called to the area of Orangedale Avenue for multiple calls reporting a shooting.
Officers arrived within two minutes and found five people — a 52-year-old woman, an 18-year-old woman, a 17-year-old boy, an 11-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy — had been shot and were injured.
The victims are in stable condition, according to Charlottesville Police.
EMS personnel were not able to access the scene initially due to foot traffic, but officers and medics were able to apply pressure to the victims’ wounds until additional first responders arrived.
Initial evidence suggests there were multiple shooters involved, according to police.
Charlottesville Police’s Criminal Investigations Division and Forensics Unit are still investigating the shooting. Officials are still in the area on Saturday, July 5, conducting a search for any additional evidence.
