BCC Live, based in Boulder, Colo., used a LiveU-centric REMI workflow to cover the 140.6-mile bicycle race featuring a $175,000 pro purse. Ten LiveU field units captured the event and sent feeds to BCC Live’s Boulder studio for live commentary and global distribution on YouTube, proseries.ironman.com and DAZN, with customized feeds for viewers in Great Britain, China, Germany and France.
Four LU900Q units equipped with LiveU IQ, the company’s AI-powered connectivity, headlined the deployment. Units were mounted on motorcycles traveling about 30 mph, drones, roaming handhelds, boats that later converted to moto packs, fixed positions and even electric unicycles weaving through athletes.
The course’s challenging environments — tunnels, heavy tree cover and underpasses — tested connectivity. The LU900Q’s 5G architecture and predictive network switching helped maintain stable transmission across the 10-hour live broadcast, contributing to a 30% year-over-year increase in viewership. Roughly 584,000 unique viewers watched for 35 minutes or more, the largest audience in the event’s history.
“We received our LU900Q units just one week before Ironman Texas, and we had enough confidence in the technology to put them straight into mission-critical spots on the motos,” said Dave Downey, owner and senior event specialist at BCC Live. “The LU900Q outperformed every other pack, especially under bridges and trees, allowing our team to stop worrying about connectivity and focus on the artistry of the production.”
“BCC Live has always been at the forefront of remote production,” said Gideon Gilboa, LiveU chief product officer and GM, Americas. “The LU900Q played a central role in bringing this record-breaking race to fans around the globe.”
BCC Live has long used LiveU systems, with an inventory that includes 19 field units and five four-channel decoders. The 2026 Experience Oman Ironman Pro Series continues through October, with LiveU’s LU900Q expected to power much of the coverage.
