CenterPoint Energy customers join Delta Utilities in La. and Miss

NEW ORLEANS, La. (WNTZ) — Delta Utilities, a Louisiana-based natural gas provider backed by Bernhard Capital Partners, announced Thursday it has completed the acquisition of CenterPoint Energy’s regulated natural gas local distribution companies serving Louisiana and Mississippi.

The acquisition will add more than 380,000 customers to Delta Utilities’ service area and is expected to create jobs, enhance infrastructure investment, and strengthen the regional economy.

“Today is historic for the energy landscape in the Gulf South,” said Pete Tumminello, executive chairman of Delta Utilities’ board of directors. “While Delta Utilities is officially serving its first customers today, our team brings decades of experience in natural gas operations. We are also welcoming 500 former CenterPoint employees, ensuring continued reliable service.”

Tim Poché, CEO of Delta Utilities, emphasized the company’s focus on safety and service continuity.

“Our priority is a seamless transition for customers,” Poché said. “This acquisition moves us closer to our vision of building resilient, multi-state natural gas utilities that support economic growth. We appreciate the Louisiana and Mississippi Public Service Commissions for their oversight and approval, ensuring continued access to reliable, affordable energy.”

Customers will retain their existing billing cycles, payment options, and online portal access, with no action required to maintain service. Both CenterPoint Energy and Delta Utilities have communicated transition details and will continue collaborating to ensure a smooth handover. Current rate structures remain unchanged.

Delta Utilities is also finalizing the acquisition of Entergy’s regulated natural gas distribution companies in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, a transaction expected to close in summer 2025.
