Family of man killed by London police files civil lawsuit

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — The family of Doug Harless, who was shot and killed by London police while serving a warrant, has found legal counsel to represent them in a civil lawsuit.

On Dec. 23, Harless was killed when officers apparently went to the wrong home in Lily while serving a search warrant for a stolen weedeater.

On Friday, Harless’ daughter, Nicki Lawson, told FOX 56 that the shooting was a completely preventable tragedy that left her family heartbroken.

“My dad, Doug, was one of the hardest-working people I knew, always putting his family and friends first,” Lawson said. “He loved watching NASCAR, listening to music, and cracking jokes that made everyone laugh. We miss him every single day.  No family should have to endure this kind of loss and we want to hold the police accountable for their reckless error.”

Attorneys Nicholas Horne and Ashley Abaray of Thomas Law Offices will be representing the family in the civil lawsuit.
