A year ago, AccountsIQ announced that Triathlon Ireland would be implementing its financial solution to help the company automate its finance processes. A year later Triathlon Ireland has shared the progress it has made using the solution in a case study.Triathlon Ireland is the governing body of Triathlon in Ireland; it organises more than 250 events and has 20,000 members from juniors to professional athletes. As the operation became more complex, it decided to implement AccountsIQ to better manage its accounting.
The non-profit used spreadsheets, manual processes and disconnected systems to manage most of its financial matters before AccountsIQ. It relied on manual exports and validations which as the organisation grew and increased event volume left month ends suffering.
Eric Harmon, Financial Controller, Triathlon Ireland said, “Before AccountsIQ, our management accounts involved dozens of Excel exports and constant formula checks. Reporting was time-consuming and month-end often became a challenge.”
Selecting AccountsIQ was a simple decision
After a short demonstration of the AccountsIQ capabilities it opted to implement both ExpenseIn and AccountsIQ.
Harmon added, “What really stood out about AccountsIQ, was the team’s honest approach about the specific needs of us as an organisation. We were thrilled with the smooth implementation process from the team who provided enhanced staff training and a dedicated support manager who walked us through every step of the process.
“We wanted confidence that AccountsIQ would be a partner – not just a vendor – well beyond onboarding, and that has proven to be the case.’’
A smooth implementation
AccountsIQ leveraged Wrike, a project management tool, and supported the organisation through the process to ensure that the implementation project ran smoothly. Implementing AccountsIQ and ExpenseIn meant that the two systems worked seamlessly together with expenses flowing into the financial systems.
AccountsIQ acquired ExpenseIn in 2025 making the combined solution more powerful than ever. It also eliminates the time-consuming manual processes that Triathlon Ireland used to have to complete monthly.
Harmon added, “The integration between AccountsIQ and ExpenseIn is an absolute game changer. ExpenseIn data flows directly into our accounts system with receipts. This removes the manual work and definitely speeds up our month end process.”
A great outcome for Triathlon Ireland
Using the combination of AccountsIQ and ExpenseIn, Triathlon Ireland has transformed its financial operations. The firm has better visibility and faster processes. Key benefits that it has gained include:
- Transitioning from 695 nominal codes to 200 streamlined codes.
- Shifting from single dimension reporting to multi-dimensional insights.
- Replacing manual processes with real-time reporting.
- Reducing month-end close from five days to five hours, with financial reporting now completed in minutes.
Harmon added, “Following the integration of AccountsIQ’s cloud accounting software, financial reporting that used to take days of manual work can now be done at the click of a button, which is a significant step forward for our team. AccountsIQ has given us much greater confidence in our reporting, and we are thrilled with the results.”
Darren Cran, CEO of AccountsIQ concluded, “It has been a pleasure to join forces with Triathlon Ireland to enhance its financial operations and remove these long-standing inefficiencies. Fantastic organisations such as Triathlon Ireland continue to suffer from reduced financial efficiency due to a reliance on outdated systems and manual reporting.
“At AccountsIQ, we pride ourselves on supporting mid-market businesses by implementing our platform to enhance productivity, group accounting features, and next-level business intelligence.”
Enterprise Times: What does this mean?
The financial transformation of Triathlon Ireland has been completed over the last year. As a non-profit it is important that its operational costs are minimised. The elimination of much of the manual work means that the organisation can continue to scale without adding further manual hours.
Harmon concluded, “There is never a perfect time to move finance systems, really, but the efficiencies you gain after make it all worthwhile. If you are considering a move, I would highly recommend booking in a 30-minute demo to see AccountsIQ and ExpenseIn in action.”
