Michael Arnone hails from Louisiana. Back in 1989, he threw his first New Jersey crawfish boil at Suntan Lake in Butler. He worked as a union electrician then and missed the flavors and sounds of his home state.
“We had about 70 people with Peach Fish Pie and Bayou Midnight as musical guests, 300 pounds of crawfish, and a pot of jambalaya,” he said, according to NJ.com.
That small gathering has ballooned into a regional event. Cajun, Zydeco, Delta Blues, New Orleans R&B, brass, gospel, and jazz acts will perform.
Guests can grab oyster, shrimp, and catfish po’boys. Char-grilled oysters too. Southern-fried chicken as well. The menu offers choices for anyone wanting to sample Gulf Coast cooking.
Tickets start at $48, and are available online. Single-day admission, two-day combos, and a four-day camping package with three nights of admission can be purchased. King Crawfish Krewe Pit Passes grant access to the main stage pit area for those 21 or older.
Children under 14 enter free on Saturday and Sunday when accompanied by a parent. The fairgrounds sit at 37 Plains Road in Augusta.
