30 New Jersey Hospitals Earn Top Safety Grades in Leapfrog’s Spring 2026 Report

Thirty hospitals in New Jersey got “A” grades when the Leapfrog Group released its spring 2026 Hospital Safety Grade report on Wednesday, putting the state in sixth place across the nation for the share of places that received top marks.

The report hands out grades from “A” to “F.” It looks at how well each hospital stops medical errors, injuries, accidents, and infections. Leapfrog studied hospitals throughout the country, checking safety data and how they performed.

“The good news is that hospitals across the country are making meaningful strides in patient safety and helping save countless lives,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, according to the Daily Voice. “But not all hospitals are the same. That’s why it’s so important for people to consult Safety Grades and do their research when choosing a hospital.”

Garden State hospitals with top grades? Morristown Medical Center made the cut. So did Hackensack Meridian Hackensack University Medical Center and Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck. Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in Englewood got one too.

Community Medical Center in Toms River earned an “A.” Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington and Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch joined them. Saint Michael’s Medical Center in Newark got top marks, as did St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson.

Shore Medical Center in Somers Point received recognition. Jersey City Medical Center did too, along with Newton Medical Center and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in Somerville.

Several Hackensack Meridian Health sites received “A” grades — those in Holmdel, Montclair, Perth Amboy, Red Bank, and Manahawkin all scored high. Inspira Medical Center locations in both Mullica Hill and Vineland earned top rankings as well.

The report spotted improvements nationwide. Hospital-acquired infections went down. Medication safety systems got better. Leapfrog watches these numbers so patients can pick where they want to get care with confidence.

More places received recognition: Overlook Medical Center in Summit, Chilton Medical Center in Pompton Plains, and Hackettstown Medical Center all made the list. St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center, Saint Clare’s Hospital of Denville, and St. Mary’s General Hospital in Passaic finished out the group of top performers.
