Secure Content Distribution At Heart Of New ATSC 3.0 Receivers For Consumers And Broadcasters

Secure content distribution is central to a new generation of ATSC 3.0 receivers that enhance free over-the-air television with advanced picture quality and in-home distribution capabilities for consumers and broadcasters, according to the ATSC 3.0 Security Authority (A3SA). The group and its partners will showcase these devices at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, April 18-22, in the ATSC booth (Central Hall 1655) during the NAB Show in Las Vegas, April 18-22.

A3SA said more than 18.5 million A3SA-enabled NextGen TV sets in U.S. homes can successfully receive and decrypt protected over-the-air broadcasts. Nearly 40 models from Hisense, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and TCL — representing the bulk of the installed base — have been confirmed capable of decrypting content with or without an internet connection, based on a recent review by a certified public accounting firm.

“Free over-the-air television remains one of the most important and accessible platforms for news, sports and entertainment,” said Joe St. Jean, A3SA managing director. “Content security enables content owners to continue offering high-value programming via broadcast TV and prevents premium content from migrating exclusively to subscription platforms. This protection helps preserve free OTA television as a competitive venue for premium programming.”

New receiver innovations on display at NAB 2026 include:

• Airwavz.tv’s TvXplorer Suite, a broadcaster analysis tool now supporting decryption of A3SA-protected content. The suite is designed to help ATSC 3.0 engineers quickly diagnose signal issues while maintaining enterprise-level security and authentication from source to screen.
• MyVelo TV Premiere, a next-generation, broadcast-first platform that unifies free NEXTGEN TV with streaming apps and premium picture performance. The device supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG and Advanced HDR by Technicolor, combining OTA television with AI-driven content discovery and picture optimization.
• ZapperBox Whole-Home Gateway, available in quad-, dual- and single-tuner versions plus a Mini receiver for secondary rooms. ZapperBox will debut what it calls the first NEXTGEN TV quad-tuner whole-home gateway paired with Zapper Mini receivers, and will show a new software release adding Advanced HDR by Technicolor to dual- and quad-tuner models.

A3SA said the demonstrations highlight how protected ATSC 3.0 content can be securely received, recorded and distributed within the home while preserving rights holder requirements and enabling new consumer features.
