Whirlpool has announced plans to build a laundry component and sub-assembly plant in Perrysburg, Ohio.
The $60 million project will represent the company’s 11th U.S. factory and its sixth in the Buckeye State when it’s completed in 2028.
The state-of-the-art production facility will be housed in a former solar panel plant, which will be retrofit to accommodate new, advanced manufacturing technologies and automation, Whirlpool said. The factory is intended to serve as a vital hub for its U.S. operations and will provide “critical support” to the vendor’s nearby laundry plants in Clyde and Marion, Ohio.
“This investment is proof of our confidence in [the domestic] workforce and our determination to win by producing high-quality, innovative products in the U.S.,” said Marc Bitzer, Whirlpool chairman and CEO. “When there is a level playing field, our American workers can out-compete anyone in the world.”
The Perrysburg plant is the latest in a series of significant domestic investments for the manufacturer, including a $300 million capital infusion announced last fall that’s designed to modernize and expand capacity at the Clyde and Marion facilities.

“This new facility represents an evolution in American manufacturing,” said Kristin Day, Whirlpool’s vice president of U.S. manufacturing. “By creating a hybrid environment where cutting-edge automation meets human ingenuity, we are not just building appliances, we are building the future domestic production for our industry.
“Our people remain the foundation of our success,” she added, “and these tools will empower them to reach new levels of precision and efficiency.”
Whirlpool noted that approximately 80% of the appliances it sells in the U.S. are produced domestically, and that it spent more than $6 billion with U.S. suppliers last year alone.
The company expects to hold a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Perrysburg plant later this year.
