PIKE COUNTY, Ind. — March 17, 2026
Indiana Conservation Officers rescued two people Monday after they drove into floodwater and became stranded in Pike County, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
Pike County Dispatch received a call for help at 12:25 p.m. from a person who reported being stuck in floodwater along River Road near Dodge City. The caller said water had entered the vehicle and risen to the door handles.
Authorities said the two people were wet but were able to climb onto the top of the truck in freezing temperatures while waiting for help.
The Pike County Sheriff’s Department used a drone to locate the stranded people, and responding conservation officers reached the vehicle by boat and brought both to safety.
Both were treated at the scene and released, according to the DNR.
Indiana Conservation Officers reminded the public not to drive through floodwater and urged motorists to follow the safety message: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
Assisting agencies included the Pike County Sheriff’s Department, Pike County Emergency Medical Services and the Pike County Emergency Management Agency.
