According to a criminal complaint, Steward was speeding north on Emerson Avenue on Dec. 16, 2024, when she ran through a red light at 26th Avenue North, hitting a Ford Explorer. Both occupants, Esther Fulks, 53, and Rose Reece, 57, died in the crash.
A 17-year-old boy who was standing by a bus stop was hit and injured in the collision, and a passenger in Steward’s car was injured as well.
Steward’s sentencing is scheduled for April 17. Each third-degree murder charge carries a penalty of up to 25 years.
Last year, prosecutors elevated two criminal vehicular homicide charges to third-degree murder due to Steward’s “extremely dangerous speeds” leading up to the crash.
