A crash Sunday afternoon near Lake Crystal in south-central Minnesota left a 15-year-old girl dead and severely injured a 17-year-old driver, the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office said.
The crash happened just after noon at the intersection of County Road 11 and County Road 20. A GMC Sierra Pickup was headed north on County Road 20 when it collided with a Chevrolet Malibu going east on County Road 11, according to the sheriff’s office.
The passenger of the Malibu, 15-year-old Claire Alyssa Jeske of rural Hanska, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Malibu, a 17-year-old boy from rural New Ulm, was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries.
Both occupants of the GMC were assessed at the scene and did not require further treatment.
The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the crash with the assistance of the Minnesota State Patrol.
