DAVIS, W.Va. (WBOY) – West Virginians who are concerned about negative impacts of the data center and power plant being built in Tucker County are planning to make their voices heard in Charleston this week.
The Air Quality Board hearing for the Fundamental Data air quality permit appeal is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 5, and several community and environmental groups are joining for a rally before the meeting. Starting at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, groups including Friends of Blackwater, the WV Highlands Conservancy, Tucker United and the Sierra Club will be rallying outside of the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection offices on 57th Street in Charleston.
“Let’s come together to show that our community is united for clean air, healthy mountains, and a sustainable future,” Friends of Blackwater said in a social media post promoting the rally.
The involved groups have been vocal about their concerns about the data center since Fundamental Data applied for an air quality permit to build and operate the plant between Davis and Thomas in Tucker County back in the spring. Groups are concerned that the 500-acre plant could cause air pollution and destroy the unique natural landscape of the area.
The WVDEP approved the air quality permit in August, a decision that was appealed by several groups in September.
The appeal hearing is scheduled for Nov. 5 at 8:30 a.m. and is available to watch on Zoom at this link.
