An investigation, led by Sheriff Aaron Mitchell and his team began after Goodman reported that another vehicle pulled up next to his patrol car and began firing at him while he was driving along US Highway 171 near Old Pleasant Hill.

However, the details of Goodman’s account raised suspicions. Detectives from the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with Louisiana State Police Troop E, discovered inconsistencies in Goodman’s statements.

Their findings, along with initial digital evidence and witness testimonies, ultimately resulted in the issuance of a warrant for his arrest.

Goodman was arrested on October 26, 2025, for allegedly orchestrating a fake shooting incident involving his patrol vehicle.

Goodman now faces several charges, including:

  • Malfeasance in office and tampering with evidence (Felony)
  • Obstruction of justice (Felony)
  • Criminal damage to property (valued between $1,000-$50,000) (Felony)
  • Criminal mischief (Misdemeanor)

Following his arrest, Goodman was booked into the Sabine Parish Detention Center.

As of now, no bond has been set.

Although he remains officially employed by the Zwolle Police Department, he has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

The Police Chief, Daniel Thomas, released the following statement on Facebook “This type of behavior, whether within the department or the community, will be dealt with swiftly. This incident is not indicative of the Zwolle Police Department’s values. We will continue to work towards maintaining the safety of our town and community.”

Authorities continue to gather and analyze additional evidence related to the case. Further updates are expected as the investigation unfolds.
