Baton Rouge man faces charges after rear-end collision

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Baton Rouge man faces multiple charges after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Siegen Lane and Julia Aubin Lane on Friday, Oct. 24.

Darwin Cerna Espinal, 45, was charged with operating while intoxicated – first offense, vehicular negligent injuring and reckless operation of a vehicle.

EBRSO responded a little before 3 p.m. and found that Espinal was driving a Chevrolet Silverado at the time of the crash. According to the affidavit, Espinal rear-ended a stopped vehicle while heading north on Siegen Lane. Deputies said a woman inside the vehicle that was hit suffered an injury.

According to an affidavit, Espinal admitted to hitting the vehicle in front of him “due to her braking” and drinking two beers before getting behind the wheel. Deputies said he did not do well on field sobriety tests and was arrested.

A breathalyzer test was administered, and his BAC came back at 0.268 g%.

Espinal was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the same day as the crash.
