I love VR headsets, but they’re all clunky. They’re big and heavy, and they just don’t feel great to wear for extended periods — especially if you’re trying to do work or watch a movie on an enormous virtual display. That’s where XR/AR glasses come in. These devices look basically like regular sunglasses, but they act as a huge, private virtual display for devices like PC, Mac, Steam Deck, iOS, Android. Viture’s latest offering, Beast XR/AR Glasses, are now available at Amazon and Best Buy. If you buy them at Amazon, you can get a free wireless controller from 8BitDo.

What’s so great about Beast XR/AR Glasses that they cost $549? It’s that big virtual display, baby. These glasses give you a number of viewing options for the display. You can select the size you want. If you have the display set to full size, it looks like a 174-inch display that’s planted four feet in front of you. It fills your view and then some, but you can use controls on the arms of the glasses to resize the display to your liking. You can also have it float in front of you wherever you look, or you can “pin” it in place, so it’ll stay put even if you turn your head.

The virtual display is powered by Sony micro-OLED panels that offer a crisp image of up to 1200p per eye, with a 120 Hz refresh rate and excellent brightness. Audio-wise, the built-in Harman speakers offer what Viture says is “deeper bass, wider soundstage, and crystal-clear highs tuned by the world’s leading audio engineers.”

Out of the box, the glasses are compatible with devices running Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS, as well as portable PCs like Steam Deck and ROG Ally. They’re also compatible with Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, but for those device you’ll need the Viture Pro Mobile Dock, which is sold separately. The Switch 2 dock is on sale at Amazon right now for $129, as is the original Switch dock.

While they’re not directly compatible with PS5 or Xbox Series X|S game consoles, you can use cloud gaming or remote play on your phone to get your games on the giant virtual display.

The free 8BitDo controller that comes free when you buy the Beast XR/AR Glasses at Amazon is a translucent variant that was specially made for this bundle.
