Election for Sunset Police Chief set for this weekend

SUNSET, La. (KLFY) — The Town of Sunset is set to elect a new Chief of Police this weekend, in a race between two candidates.

The Oct. 11 election will replace former Sunset Police Chief Luis Padilla who resigned in March after pleading guilty in federal court to a civil rights violation in connection with an incident that occurred in December 2023.

The election is between candidates Corey Fairchild and Aquieta “KiKi” Hebert.

The Chief of Police is the highest-ranking officer in a police department, responsible for overseeing law enforcement operations, managing personnel and ensuring public safety.

Polls open Saturday at 7 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m. For information, voters can find their polling place and view a sample ballot by downloading the GeauxVote app or click here for more.
