By rssfeeds-admin The safety measure was taken by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) in order to decrease crashes at the busy intersection and increase the flow of traffic.
According to the transportation department, highway development projects of this kind have shown to drop crashes by more than 50%.
RCUTS installed by the department on U.S. 68 in Trigg County recently showed a 64.5% decrease in total crashes since they were constructed.
Officials say this project was a top priority of theirs due to the number of crashes just south of the Twin Bridges.
Between 2019 and 2022, 94 crashes were recorded at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Wolf Hills Road, with five resulting in serious injury or death.
KYTC’s Director of Public Affairs Allen Blair says data shows the new traffic lanes will not increase travel time.
“The time of day, the amount of traffic, whether it is rush hour or not things like that, they are going to impact your times through intersections. But what we have found is that this design won’t increase waiting to try to make a turn and in fact it keeps people moving.” Blaire said.
According to project engineers the multi-million-dollar highway safety development was completed one week ahead of schedule.
