The alert system, which is free to sign up for, allows residents to register with their name and commission number to receive notifications about potential fraudulent activity related to their property deeds.
“Property deed fraud is happening nationwide. We have been working diligently to try to help protect any of the residents of Winnebago County from that happening. And we’re trying to be proactive, instead of reactive. This is one more way that residents can feel safe and secure with their properties,” said Winnebago County Clerk Lori Gummow.
Fraud alerts are available to sign up for now, providing residents with an additional layer of security for their property deeds.
