Here’s what Shreveport residents said about possible national guard presence

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)  – Louisiana is next on President Donald Trump’s list for National Guard troop deployments, and the Shreveport Police Department says they welcome the help, but what really matters is what residents feel about that.

The president deployed troops to Washington, D.C. in August, and on Thursday, he announced that troops will be deployed to Memphis, TN, and that Louisiana is next on his list. And Chief Wayne Smith said he would accept the help to “fight crime”.

We asked people in Shreveport how they would feel about National Guard Troops being in neighborhoods to fight crime. Resident of the MLK Community, Georgia Robert was at a local beauty salon. She told us she has relatives in the National Guard. Mrs. Robert said, “I think it’s crazy, how can you have your family members in the National Guard protecting the country and then come and fight you, that’s crazy.”

Owner of Chocolate Pineapple LaJauan Salone said, “Some neighborhoods in Shreveport probably do need it, the crime has really, really tremendously increased within the last two years it seems like it has gotten worse. I wouldn’t necessarily say that it might have to go to that extreme, but the city of Shreveport definitely needs some assistance.”

As of the publication of this article, there is no official deployment date for the National Guard troops in Louisiana cities.
