OGDEN, Utah (
ABC4) — Fans in attendance for Saturday night’s Ogden Raptors game were able to witness a special tribute prior to the first pitch.
The Raptors and The Major Brent Taylor Foundation held a special public flag reassignment ceremony as part of the annual Patriot Day game at Lindquist Field. Two flags, totaling 22,000 square feet, were unfurled by 300 volunteers prior to the game.
The ceremony, the first of its kind in Utah, was held to celebrate the replacement of the original “Major” flag that has flown over Coldwater Canyon every November since 2018. The “Major” flag is named after Major Brent Taylor, former mayor of North Ogden who was killed in Afghanistan in 2018 while deployed with the Utah Army National Guard.
The original “Major” flag sustained wind damage last year, and is being re-assigned to more parade and memorials. The new flag is set to take the place of the original “Major” flag in November. Both were on display during the ceremony.
Organizers of this year’s event say the two policemen killed in Tremonton, Officer Eric Estrada and Sgt. Lee Sorensen, will be honored during next year’s event.
