August looks to end on a cooler, wetter note

After a hot and dry month with only one day of rainfall, Twin Lakes residents are welcoming the relief of cooler air and a good chance of rain to wrap up August.

Temperatures are forecasted to be in the upper 70s during the day with overnight lows touching the 50s throughout the week. Those daytime highs are 10 degrees or more lower than the average for this time of the year. National Weather Service Meteorologist Justin Condry says a strong cold front and heavy cloud cover is helping to tame the previously high temperatures.

On Thursday the high is projected to be 66 degrees with an overnight low of 56. The last time the area saw temperatures that cool was May 28 which saw a daytime high of 64 and overnight low of 54. Everyday since then has been 70 degree or higher during the daytime.

Condrey says Thursday will see a good chance for precipitation which will be a welcome relief as dry conditions have much of the area under burn bans.

While summer still has 27 days remaining and a rebound in temperatures is expected in early September, locals can pause and enjoy a break from the heat and the hope of cooler days to come and greener grass, gardens, and pastures.
