The Boys Actor Antony Starr Says Goodbye to Homelander With Spoiler-Heavy Behind-the-Scenes Photos

Now that The Boys is finally over, actor Antony Starr has taken to Instagram to bid farewell to his time as Homelander with a very spoiler-y photo gallery.

“Ok I feel like spoilers aren’t really a thing now but…spoilers,” Starr said in the caption of his post, which opens with a video of him ripping off the gory makeup he graced in The Boys Season 5 finale. “Last [behind the scenes] from the epic conclusion of the trauma created baby man wrapped monster suit that was Homie. Love to all the cast, crew and fans. It’s been a hell of a ride. ox.”

The full post, published just days after The Boys came to a bloody end earlier this week, is, indeed, packed with spoilers. In addition to what looks to be quite a cathartic video for the actor, it comes with 13 images of him palling around with co-stars like Jack Quaid (Hughie), Karl Urban (Butcher), and Karen Fukuhara (Kimiko) before filming wrapped.

Those who tuned into The Boys series finale via Prime Video or at their local theater will immediately recognize Starr’s makeup in the Instagram posts as the same, scarred look Homelander had when Butcher plunged a crowbar into his skull and popped it open.

It was a gruesome moment that saw the once all-powerful supervillain without his powers as the rest of the supe-killing crew finally finished their mission, but behind the scenes, things were all peachy. Some of the funnier pictures from Starr’s photo gallery show him suited up in full Homelander gear while cradling what seems to be a life-sized replica of himself post-crowbar.

Through all of the plots to become a god and milk guzzling, Starr has played the character since The Boys premiered in 2019. The years since have seen him become what feels like one of the most memed characters in fiction, with even the show’s divisive finale season resulting in a healthy dose of new Homelander memes as the last episodes rolled out. As Starr says goodbye to the character he helped bring to life, fans are having a hard time letting go.

For now, it’s unclear if Starr will ever have an opportunity to play Homelander again. IGN gave The Boys Season 5 finale an 8/10 in our review. While the hyper-violent superhero show has come to an end, it seems like its look and feel will live on when its Vought Rising spin-off premieres in 2027.
