August sees nearly half the average rainfall with cooler weather ahead

The month of August wrapped up with cooler temperatures and more humid conditions than it started, with many residents welcoming fall weather into the Twin Lakes area.

August ended with nearly half the average rainfall for the month, continuing the dry spell that began in July. At KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot, the official reporting station for the National Weather Service in Mountain Home,

1.72 inches of precipitation was recorded for the month of August, compared to the average of 3.74 inches. Due to the lack of rainfall, many communities in the Twin Lakes area experienced burn bans as officials warned of dry conditions leading to potential fire hazards. The first rainfall recorded for the month of August was on the 19th, which saw 1.48 inches.

While the temperatures in August felt exceptionally hot, records indicate that August’s temperatures tracked with the average for the month. Last month, the area saw an average high of 89 degrees and an average low of 74. The hottest day recorded in August was the 18th, which reached a high of 100 degrees, with the coolest being August 30th, which saw a low of 56 degrees.

As we begin September, models provided by the National Weather Service show temperatures cooling and rain chances increasing as we welcome fall to the Twin Lakes area.
