More thunderstorms today before clearing over the weekend

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4) – Happy Friday, Utah! Temperatures drop a few degrees today, putting us right around seasonal norms.

Daytime highs will be in the low to mid 90s for most valleys, mid to upper 80s for valleys at higher elevations, and upper 90s for the hot spots, but Washington County could squeeze out another triple-digit day.

Yesterday brought the first rain to many of us for the first time since the Fourth of July, not a ton, but we’re happy to get anything! More wet weather is in store for some us today. Areas east of I-15 will be favored with scattered thunderstorms in the forecast, but the West Desert and Wasatch Front will still isolated thunderstorms toward the late afternoon and evening hours.

Some storms will lack precipitation but still bring lightning and gusty outflow winds, so the fire threat remains elevated for the west half of the state.

Thunderstorms stick around into Saturday, but they won’t be quite as widespread and will again mainly stay east of I-15, but storms could still roll over valleys from St. George to Salt Lake City.

By Sunday high pressure begins to build back which will usher in calmer conditions. Temperatures this weekend will be in the upper 80s to low 90s for most, while hot spots reach the upper 90s.

Things start warming up and drying out to kick off the workweek. Monday will spell a return to the mid 90s and low 100s and clearing skies.

We’ll keep you posted on the latest developments in our 4Warn Weather forecast both on-air and online, we are Good4Utah!

  • Isolated T-storms Fri-Sat
  • Scattered T-storms east UT
  • Some dry T-storms
  • Elevated fire risk for western UT
  • Drying out by Sunday
