Windy weather ahead of our next weather-maker

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Tuesday, Utah! Today’s weather will be a case of rinse and repeat with daytime highs reaching the upper 80s on the Wasatch Front, low to mid 80s for valleys in southern and central Utah, and low to mid 90s for the normally hot spots. Healthy southerly winds are helping keep those warmer temperatures locked in. Moisture is still present and will spell a mix of sun and clouds across the state. A brief isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible on the Wasatch Front, but the best chance will be in higher terrain and in the northeast quadrant of the state north of I-70. Isolated thunderstorms are expected in Castle Country, the Uinta Basin and Mountains, and possibly the Wasatch Back.

Wednesday will be similar with highs in the upper 80s again for the Wasatch Front and upper 70s for the Wasatch Back. Southern Utah will be just a couple degrees cooler, but low to mid 90s are still anticipated in the hot spots and low 80s for most other valleys. Winds pick up even more on Wednesday ahead of our next weather-maker, bringing strong southerly flow. Winds out of the south will keep a lot of the moisture at bay in western Utah while keeping temperatures in northern Utah above average. Most places are not likely to see precipitation for the midweek, but there will still be a few isolated thunderstorms in the Four Corners region and higher terrain of northern Utah, although we can’t rule it out completely in northern valleys.

Moisture starts to increase Thursday bringing a higher chance of precipitation to the north, but thunderstorms will again be focused over eastern Utah and mountainous regions. We’ll start seeing a notable drop in temperatures with daytime highs dropping into the upper 70s and low 80s for most, and upper 80s for the hotter areas like St. George.

Friday will be our best bet for wet weather in the north as the slow-moving system passes over the Great Basin region, providing Pacific moisture and the lift needed to generate thunderstorms. Isolated storms are in the forecast for most of northern and eastern Utah, including the Wasatch Front. Temperatures will fall further on Friday with mid to upper 70s on deck for valley floors and mid 80s in the hot spots.

Things should start clearing out by the weekend, but moisture could wrap around the exiting system and keep a few showers and thunderstorms in the north. Things dry out and warm up through the close of the weekend.

We’ll keep you posted on the lates updates in our 4Warn Weather forecast both on-air and online, we are Good4Utah!
