Pay it Forward: School custodian receives $1,000

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)– A school and church custodian receives the ultimate back-to-school gift as one parent pays it forward with $1,000.

Each month, Bob Giles with Giles Automotive randomly selects someone in Acadiana and gives them the chance to “Pay it Forward.”

This month, Lindsey Homan was presented with an envelope of cash and the chance to surprise someone she knows with the money.

“That would be a treat,” Homan said. “I would love to do that.”

Homan originally chose to donate the money to St. Mary Mother of the Church in Lafayette. She said she works there part time and that her children attended preschool there.

“We love the church. It’s very great for this community, and I would love to give back,” Homan said. “That would be an awesome donation to the church. That’d be great.”

However, that church donation turned into a gift for the one who takes care of the church. On her way to St. Mary, Homan decided she wanted to gift the money to Warren Henry, the custodian.

Dina Castille, St. Mary Early Learning Principal, said Mr. Warren has worked there for several years.

“The children adore him,” Castille said. “He treats them like family.”

Castille got Warren to step outside of the school, where he was surprised with the envelope of cash.

Warren knew what Pay it Forward was and thanked everyone many times. He said he planned to spend the money on his vacation with his grandchildren.

“We love you, Mr. Warren,” Homan said.

“You are an integral part of our school,” Castille said.
