The 24,000+ square-foot building is located at 4901 W. Stan Schlueter Loop, and features a retail store and a 4,000+ square-foot Community Connect center, offering affordable shopping options alongside community resources.
The Community Connect center offers free education, employment, and resource navigation services to residents. Meeting and training spaces are also available for local businesses and community organizations.
“We’re just excited to offer more space and more services to the people of Killeen. We have a computer lab, we have printers so we can do everything. From how do you update your resumé to join classes, to learn Excel and Microsoft Word, and get interview skills. So, all to help enter the workforce and upskill you to extend your career,” said Kristin Ballard, the marketing and public relations director for Heart of Texas Goodwill.
In addition to its community services, the facility brings economic growth to the area – with 24 new hires and more hirings to come soon.
Retired Army veteran Luther Harris said the new location offers much-needed support to residents looking for work or trying to improve their digital literacy, “I think it’s great. They got a computer room that’s phenomenal, and for people in the local area, that will be a big help for people want to look for jobs or research.”
Central Texans turned out in large numbers, with the entry line wrapped around the building for the grand opening. Attendee Jean Brown said she was shocked at the turnout.
“I was surprised when I pulled up at 905 and seen how many people were wrapped around the building,” she said. Brown also expressed her gratitude for the new resources to help the community. “It is awesome that Goodwill is able to offer those computer-based skills and learning skills for our family members and the community.”
With a brand-new space, free resources, and a commitment to empower the community, Heart of Texas Goodwill hopes this facility will become a place where careers begin, skills grow, and opportunities take shape.
