Coastal areas, meanwhile, are forecast for much milder weather, with temperatures 20 to 30 degrees cooler than the interior.
“While there is a warm-up expected, [the] onshore flow remains, so coastal/bay regions will be more muted with more heat confined to the interior,” the NWS forecast reads. “In other words, a large temperature spread from the coast to the interior.”
Wednesday’s highs will range from 60 to 80 degrees near the coast and 80 to 90 degrees inland. The inland-most areas of the East Bay could see temperatures hotter than 100 degrees.
The warm weather is forecast to persist through the weekend, with mid-day temperatures around 70 degrees in San Francisco and 90 degrees in the interior. People in warmer areas are advised to stay cool and hydrated.
Wildfires are also a concern with warmer, drier weather on the way. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, the Bay Area is currently not in a drought.
