According to the Alexandria Police Department, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a truck shortly after 2 a.m. near Washington Street and North Park Avenue.
Anderson police said the driver allegedly ignored these commands and continued driving “at a high rate of speed” into Anderson. A short time later, the driver lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and struck a utility pole and two homes. It eventually came to a halt upside down near 17th Street and Jackson Street.
One of the truck’s three occupants was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed that a second individual died at an area hospital, while a third individual remains in critical condition.
No pedestrians or officers were injured. The Anderson Police Department is leading the investigation into the incident. As of this article’s publication, no information about the deceased individuals was provided.
An official cause of death will be shared at a later time when an autopsy is performed by the Madison County Coroner’s Office.
