Two pronounced dead in train crash after driver ignores crossbars

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – An accident occurred early Monday morning involving a train and a car in Shreveport, resulting in the deaths of two occupants.

The incident took place on Oct. 6, 2025, at approximately 2:09 a.m. Police say the crash on East 85th Street near Fairfield Avenue prompted an immediate response from both the Shreveport Police and Fire departments.

First responders arrived at the scene to find that the driver and one rear passenger had sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead by the Shreveport Fire Department.

According to initial investigations by the Shreveport Police Crash Investigations Unit, the maroon Nissan Armada was traveling eastbound on East 85th Street when it reportedly drove around the lowered warning arm at the railroad crossing while the red warning lights were flashing.

The vehicle crossed the tracks and was then struck on the driver’s side by a freight train.

The force of the collision caused the car to overturn, ejecting its occupants before it came to rest.

A third occupant was later located at a family member’s residence and confirmed he had been riding in the front passenger seat at the time of the crash.

This individual stated that the driver had ignored the warning signals before the train struck the vehicle. He was then transported to Ochsner LSU Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

The circumstances of the crash remain under active investigation by the Shreveport Police Crash Investigations Unit.
