Police were called around 9:30 a.m. for a “serious accident” near the intersection of N. State Road 9 and Scatterfield Road in Anderson. Upon arrival, crews found two drivers who had been injured in the crash.
Preliminary information shows that the driver of a red 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo was traveling south on SR9 when, for an unknown reason, he hit the guardrail on the road’s west side. The car then crossed all southbound lanes of traffic before hitting a median, police said.
After hitting the median, the Monte Carlo reportedly launched into the air and landed in the northbound lanes of SR9. Soon after, police said the car collided with a concrete truck being driven south. Photos of the wreckage can be seen below:
The driver of the Monte Carlo, a 28-year-old man, was taken to Community Hospital in Anderson for treatment of “significant internal injuries.” Police said the concrete mixer driver, a 62-year-old man, was also taken to Community Hospital for treatment but has been released.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Department was the agency that responded to the scene and gathered information. MCSD Captain Darwin Dwiggins said the crash remains under investigation.
