Snip-It Barbershop event in Baton Rouge offers fresh fades and second chances

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — At Snip-It Barbershop in Baton Rouge, it’s not just about fresh fades. They also focus on giving kids a boost of confidence for the school year.

“Many of the parents have been very appreciative. They really like the genuineness. And then we take this time and this opportunity to talk to the young people, to talk to the youth about, you know, what they feel needs to be done to reduce violence,” said Tre Gradnigo.

Inside the shop, clippers are busy. They don’t just tidy haircuts; they also help clean up the community.

“I bond out quite a few juveniles and, you know, some that are 19, they’re just getting out of school or would be getting out of school and they’re getting caught up and everybody deserves another chance,” said Meg David.

The event, sponsored by Another Chance Bail Bonds, believes in the importance of second chances. It’s not only about stopping violence. It’s also about reaching young people before it starts.

“They come in and they’ll ask questions, and we can talk to them and see where their mindset is and maybe help steer them in another direction,” David said.

The “Cuttin’ Out Violence” event offers free haircuts, chats, and support to kids in the 70805 zip code. This helps them start the school year with a fresh look and a positive attitude.

“Just seeing the kids’ faces light up, you know, from the excitement and looking good on their first day, you know, it brings joy to my heart,” said Felton Henderson.

“You do not have to conform to the to the court, to what what’s being renamed as the standard. It’s okay to be different. It’s okay to stand out. It’s okay not to follow the crowd, you know, because that’s where this violence really starts,” Gradnigo said. “You have adults that will stand with you, that will pray with you, that will be right there as your backbone to help you go through the school year.”
