Just after 3:30 p.m. firefighters responded to multiple 911 calls regarding an apartment fire on Abby Street near McKenzie Avenue. As units were responding, they were told two residents were stuck inside.
Responding crews reported heavy fire coming from the second floor and immediately initiated a rescue for the two people inside. After extinguishing flames from the balcony, the two were safely rescued.
Firefighters initiated an aggressive fire attack to contain the damage to a single unit. Others in the complex were evacuated for precaution. No injuries were reported.
Fire investigators believed the fire ignited on the balcony as the occupants were sleeping; however, the cause is under investigation. The two residents were also displaced.
