New Crescent City ID to grant New Orleans residents 'equitable access, community inclusion'
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The City of New Orleans has officially released the Crescent City ID Program marking a “major step toward ensuring equitable access to identification, city services, and community inclusion.”

In a ceremony at Gallier Hall on Monday, July 28, Mayor LaToya Cantrell, city leaders, community advocates and local business owners celebrated the program’s launch.

“Every resident deserves to feel seen, supported, and connected. This card is a tool to empower our people and bring City services closer to those who need them most,” said Cantrell.

The Crescent City ID will serve as a government issued ID also functioning as New Orleans Public Library card and a New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORD) Rec Trac card.

Residents can also use the ID to earn discounts at participating businesses. City officials says it is “a valuable and versatile resource for all New Orleans residents.”

“The Crescent City ID is more than just a card it’s a tool for equity. As a city, we’re committed to removing barriers and creating pathways to opportunity. This program ensures that all residents can fully participate in the life of New Orleans,” said Kahlida Lloyd, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Human Rights & Equity.

The discount initiative is called “Around the Crescent City” and can also offer RTA “Get On Board” priority rates for September 2025.

“Beyond access to city services, the program connects people to local resources and allows them to enjoy their city like tourists with pride and ease,” said Daisy Reyes-Cabral, Program Manager for the Crescent City ID.

To obtain an ID, residents must be 10 years old and older and provide proof of identity and New Orleans residency.
