Stolen SUV fled officers at 120 mph in South Beloit; suspect in custody
SOUTH BELOIT, Ill. (WTVO) — South Beloit Police arrested 36-year-old Michael Hoffman, of DeKalb, for allegedly fleeing police at 120 mph in a stolen SUV.

On July 24, around 6 a.m., officers were made aware by the Janesville Police that a high-risk suspect had fled a traffic stop while driving a stolen Jeep Cherokee.

South Beloit Police attempted to pull over the SUV on Interstate 90, but the Jeep was traveling at speeds over 120 miles per hour. Authorities stopped pursuing the vehicle soon after.

The suspect was later picked up by a woman in Columbia County, Wisconsin, Columbia County Detectives reported, on July 28. He stayed the night with the woman at a Days Inn, according to court records.

The woman woke up and found her car, phone and cash had been stolen, according to court records.

Security footage showed Hoffman at the Days Inn before the accused vehicle theft.

Hoffman was eventually taken into custody and booked into the Winnebago County Jail on July 28.

He is charged with aggravated fleeing officers while driving 21 mph or more over the speed limit and possession of a stolen vehicle.
