Bogalusa man dead following Washington Parish crash

WASHINGTON, La. (WGNO) — A Bogalusa man is dead following a crash that was reported in Washington Parish in the early morning of Saturday, July 26.

According to the Louisiana State Police, troopers with Troop L began investigation the crash, which happened on Louisiana Highway 21 near Lon Miley Road, around 12:30 a.m.

Investigators believe that 43-year-old Gary W. Pittman Jr. was driving a 2008 Dodge Dakota south on LA 21 when, at the same time, a 2013 GMC Sierra was heading north on the same road. For reasons that are being investigated, the Dodge crossed into the northbound lane and hit the GMC head-on.

Pittman was properly restrained but still fatally injured and pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the GMC was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment. Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers as part of the ongoing investigation.
