SHRIEVER, La. (WGNO) — A Houma man is being accused of two counts of first-degree murder after he allegedly broke into a Shriever home and attacked two people with a hammer on Tuesday night, July 22.

According to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the scene where they found the suspect, identified as 49-year-old Brian Joseph Guillotte, being held at gunpoint by neighbors inside of the home.

Deputies say that, through investigation, they discovered that Guillotte allegedly went into the home with a hammer and attacked an elderly man, who received serious injuries, as well as a second victim, who received moderate injuries. The two victims were found on scene along with evidence that detectives say substantiate the information provided by both the victim and witnesses.

The neighbors, who were reportedly holding Guillotte at gunpoint on scene, came over to the home to help after hearing the disturbance.

The two victims were flown to an out-of-area hospital, where the elderly man remains in serious but stable condition, and the other victim was later released. Guillotte was also hospitalized for medical issues unrelated to the incident.

After being released, he was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on no bond and charges of home invasion as well as two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
