Bicyclist fatally struck by 18-wheeler in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A bicyclist was fatally struck by an 18-wheeler in New Orleans Thursday, July 24.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, around 4:30 p.m. an 18-wheeler was headed west on St. Claude Avenue approaching the intersection of Franklin Avenue. The driver stopped, then turned right onto Franklin Avenue.

Police said a 65-year-old man riding a bicycle, who was also traveling westbound on St. Claude Avenue, veered into the blind spot of the truck driver and was hit.

Emergency Medical Services arrived and pronounced the man dead on the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler stayed and is cooperating with the investigation.
