Daviess County, Ind. — July 18, 2025 — Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating after the body of a 21-year-old woman from Washington, Indiana, was recovered from the White River on Thursday morning.
Authorities were dispatched around 9:30 a.m. to the Maysville Public Access Site following reports that two swimmers had been swept downstream by the current.
Responders located and rescued one of the swimmers, a juvenile, who had become stranded on a sandbar downstream. The child was transported to Daviess Community Hospital for medical evaluation.
The body of Kathrynn Bottoms was later found and recovered from the river. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and Daviess Community Hospital EMS assisted at the scene.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is reminding the public of the importance of water safety and urges everyone to wear life jackets when near or on the water.
The incident remains under investigation.
