Man killed in suspected narcotics-related shooting on Warshauer Street

ALEXANDRIA, La. (WNTZ) — A 28-year-old man was shot and killed Thursday night in what authorities believe was a narcotics-related homicide, the Alexandria Police Department said.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 10:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Warshauer Street. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as Antonio Daniels of Alexandria, was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

“This incident appears to be narcotics-related and tragically resulted in a loss of life,” Alexandria Police Chief Chad Gremillion said in a statement Friday morning.

Gremillion emphasized that officers and the Regional Anti-Drug Enforcement (RADE) unit were deployed in the area Thursday night but acknowledged that law enforcement cannot prevent gun violence alone.

“We had additional resources out last night, including RADE, yet another life was taken by senseless gun violence,” he said. “The street code of silence isn’t going to stop loved ones from being killed. Law enforcement can’t do this alone.”

Gremillion urged community members to come forward with any information about illegal weapons or those responsible for the shooting.

“We promise to protect those who come forward in every way we can from retaliation,” he said.

He also warned against any attempts at retaliation following the killing.

“All it’s going to do is ruin more lives and land you in prison for the rest of your life,” Gremillion said. “We need to stop the cycle, not feed it.”

According to police, homicides in Alexandria have decreased by 60% so far in 2025 compared to the same period in 2023, but officials say even one loss is too many.

Anyone with information related to Thursday’s shooting is urged to contact the Alexandria Police Department.

“This isn’t about taking sides,” Gremillion said. “It’s about standing up for the safety of your streets, your families, and your city.”

The investigation is ongoing.
