City readies emergency team for possible severe weather

ALEXANDRIA, La. (WNTZ) – City officials in Alexandria are preparing emergency operations in response to potential severe weather over the next 48 hours, Mayor’s Office representatives announced Wednesday.

The City’s Emergency Operations Team (EOT) has formally met over the past two days to coordinate precautionary efforts, including the staging of additional generators, equipment, crews, and response plans across departments. While current forecasts suggest Alexandria may remain outside of the most at-risk areas, officials are closely monitoring the situation.

“At this time, all city operations will continue as scheduled,” officials said in a statement. “However, we are prepared to act quickly should the situation escalate.”

Mayor Jacques Roy has directed teams to conduct special cleanouts at previously identified trouble spots and to position mobile generators and pumps at strategic locations across the city. These measures are based on challenges observed during past weather events.

The EOT functions as the city’s centralized hub for emergency response coordination, deploying resources to problem areas and working in conjunction with Rapides Parish officials and other jurisdictions when needed. The team also supports tactical leaders by providing instructions and managing resource allocation.

“While we pray there is no need to declare an emergency, we stand ready to respond,” the city stated. “We encourage residents to check on neighbors and loved ones and to contact emergency services if needed.”

Further notices will be issued if the weather forecast changes or an official emergency declaration is made.
