At approximately 10:30 p.m. the Carencro Fire Department, with assistance from the Lafayette and Scott Fire Departments, responded to a reported house fire at 309 Cainwood Court.
Officials said when they arrived, they found an active fire on the right side of the structure, with flames venting through the roof. They said heat from the fire was impacting a neighboring home, causing damage to its vinyl siding. Firefighters worked to promptly to cool the exposure and minimize additional damage.
Officials said the cause of the fire was determined to be the improper disposal of spent fireworks, which were most likely still smoldering at the time of ignition.
There were no reported injuries. The Carencro Fire Department reminds the public to dispose of fireworks properly and ensure they are fully extinguished before discarding.
