During the June 3 board meeting, the school system accepted District 2 member Scott Duplechein’s resignation, effective Wednesday, June 4.
“The Ascension Parish School Board appreciates Mr. Duplechein’s service and encourages all eligible residents with a passion for public education to consider applying for this important role,” shared the school board.
The school board called for a special election on Oct. 11 to fill the vacant seat for the remainder of the term, which runs through December 2026.
Louisiana state law requires the board to appoint an interim board member within 20 days to serve until the special election. The appointment will be announced at the next board meeting on Tuesday, June 17.
Applicants must meet the following criteria for the vacant position:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have lived in Louisiana for two years before submitting the application
- Must have lived in Ascension Parish District 2 for the previous year
- Cannot have any convictions for a crime (violent crimes, sex crimes, drug offenses, theft/fraud, or crimes against children or elderly)
Applications can be submitted via email to board@apsb.org or delivered to the Ascension Parish School Board Office. The submission deadline is Friday, June 13, at noon.
